This type of hearing loss is caused by any type of blockage to the sound signal, either in the ear canal or in the middle ear. This will cause an inefficient transfer of sound from the outer ear to the inner ear. If treated timeously and appropriately, this hearing loss can be temporary.
Possible causes of conductive hearing loss:
- Accumulation of ear wax
- Otitis externa (outer ear infection)
- Otitis media (middle ear infection)
- Cholesteatoma
- Otosclerosis
- Trauma to the head, particularly in the temporal/frontal regions
